Misuse of psychotropic medications among hospitalized patients

Introduction Psychotropic drugs are sometimes taken outside of any medical context and can be diverted or even trafficked. This phenomenon affects more adolescents young adults, specifically those who already struggling with other consumption problems. vulnerable population is thus exposed to several negative health social repercussions. Objectives The objective our work determine the sociodemographic characteristics patients, main used, dose, route administration, mode obtaining drug intentionality use. Methods It a retrospective study spread over 1 year on series patients were hospitalized in service addictology at psychiatric hospital Ar-razi Salé. data collection was carried out from files an exploitation form. Results A total 141 during this period which 53 37.5 had use medication. Our sample characterized by predominance female (90%) median age 33 years. most misused benzodiazepines (85.7%), analgesics (11.7%), hypnotics (9.4%) antihistamines (1.9%). Misuse related exceeding doses (up 40 times maximum dose AMM) duration treatment, without prescription 79.2 , administration addiction. 11.3 dependent single drug; 88.7% co-addiction: tobacco 86.8%, cannabis 77.3%, alcohol 58.5%, cocaine 34.5%, solvents 15 heroin 1.8% history Hospitalization only misuse 11.3% cases. effects sought: anxiolysis euphoria 30.2%, analgesic 5.7%, disinhibition 3.8%, increased performance 1.9% Conclusions psychotropic well-known public problem.
